Bichel played 19 Tests for Australia for 58 wickets with a half-century against the West Indies and best bowling figures of 5 for 60,  where he was involved in the Frank Worrell Trophy-clinching win in the fourth Test of the teams' 1996-97 series and famously dismissed Brian Lara seven times on the 2003 tour.

Andy played 67 ODI games for Australia for 78 wickets and was a valued member of the one-day side from 2002 to 2004 and was almost unstoppable during the 2003 World Cup. In Australia's group match against England he claimed 7 for 20, rated as the best bowling against England in ODI history and shared a 73-run ninth-wicket partnership with Michael Bevan to secure Australia an unlikely victory with Bichel scoring 34 not out. In the Super Six stage of the tournament, he came in against New Zealand at 7-84 where again, he and Michael Bevan again saved Australia with Bichel posting his highest International ODI score of 64 as Australia put up a winning total batting first.

Bichel was a crucial member of the state's drought-breaking Sheffield Shield win in 1994-95 leading the attack with Michael Kasprowicz for more than a decade. His best season came in 2004-05, when he knocked off Craig McDermott's Queensland record, as he picked up 60 Pura Cup wickets.

In 2005-06, at the age of 35, Bichel was named the Pura Cup Player of the Year for his double of 452 runs at an average 34.76 and 50 wickets at average 26.69. The final act of his summer was to seal Queensland the trophy by taking the last wicket at the Gabba. In three campaigns he had captured 155 wickets, including a haul of 45 wickets in 2006-07 which was capped by a state-best 7 for 54.

In addition to his success in Australia, Bichel played for English teams Hampshire, Worcestershire and Essex with a career total of 186 First Class games at batting average of 26.51 and bowling average 25.98 including a total of 36, 5-wicket hauls.

Off Field

Bichel announced his retirement in 2009, where not long after he continued his involvement with the game as a bowling coach within the same year at the Kolkata Knight Riders. At the end of 2009, Bichel was appointed the Director of Cricket for Papua New Guinea. Currently, Bichel works as the bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings where he has been for over a decade since 2011.
